At Pool In Wharfedale CE Primary School, we have an amazing team of skilled teachers and support staff who provide an inclusive education for all children at our school. Through working together with Parents and Carers, we strive to ensure children achieve their potential.
Using the Graduated Approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review), we aim for early identification and support to ensure children receive the support they need. We work with Speech and Language therapists from Away with Words, Education Psychologists, SENIT (inclusion team), SENSAP (statutory assessment team) and many others to contribute to this approach.
We have a governor with specific responsibility for SEND, Claire Kirk, who accesses specialist SEND governor training. She plays an active role in ensuring that the school fulfils its responsibilities, meeting at least once each term with the SENDCO and reporting to the full governing body.
The Local Offer (Leeds)
The SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Local Offer provides information for children, young people and their parents/carers in a single place, helping them to understand what services they and their families can expect from a range of local agencies. This was introduced as part of the Children and Families Bill and became law in 2014.
The aim of the local offer is to improve choice and transparency for families about the services they use. It will also be an important tool for professionals to use; it enables them to understand the full range of services and provision in the local area. By setting this information out in one place, this will also help the joint commissioning of services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
