24.09.19 Author visit- Bob Hartman
Today we had a visit from the wonderful Bob Hartman. He is a fantastic story teller and author. We really enjoyed our time with Bob, we listened to his hilarious stories and even created our own. See if your child can recite the songs we learnt or tell you about our new story.
Here is a page where you can buy Bob's books: https://www.eden.co.uk/bob-hartman/
Hello and welcome back! I hope you’ve had a very enjoyable summer and your child is ready for their time in Year 2. We have lots of exciting topics, visits and activities planned for the year ahead. Our fantastic team, who will be supporting the class at some point during the week, include: Mrs Flannery and Mrs Baxter. Mrs Flannery will be teaching the class on a Wednesday afternoon, in her role as Higher Level Teaching Assistant. We look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure a very happy and successful year for your child. If you would like to discuss anything with me please see me at the end of the day or arrange a meeting with the office.
How Can You Help At Home?
Reading: Please try to read with your child every day as regular reading helps to develop your child's fluency and confidence. Enjoyment and interest is our main aim for your child’s reading. As well as reading at home, taking time to talk with your child about their book is also important to ensure your child understands what they are reading and develops their comprehension skills further. For example asking them about characters or facts or to summarise what the text meant.
Spelling: Spellings will be given on Monday and children will be tested on the spelling patterns they have learnt at the end of each half term. Writing a word in a sentence would develop their understanding further or using the strategies suggested on our spelling policy will also help.
Our focus in Year 2 will be to extend our sentences by; - Adding a range of vocabulary (e.g. beautiful, silently, marvellous) - Using a range of conjunctions (e.g. and, because, but, if, or) - Including a range of openers or add-ins (e.g. after, then, next, quickly) - Using the correct punctuation (full stops, capital letters, commas, exclamation marks and question marks)
Maths Facts will be handed out in the coming weeks and children will be tested every other week on these. The maths content that is taught in Year 2 will be shared in the ‘Class Works’ section of the class page, on the school website. TT Rockstars for home will start later in the year once the children have a solid understanding of multiplication and division.
We will be continuing to encourage home learning this half term through the Learning Pool. A minimum of 1 activity is the expectation every half term. The learning pool will be sent out next week.
